Who Moved My Cheese?

Published by Julie Anne Byrne on

In early 1999 I met the man who later became my husband and it was he who introduced me to this wonderfully written book Who Moved My Cheese?

He was an avid reader of books and while I was sceptical of the title I found myself intrigued with how the author Spencer John shows how to anticipate change in your life, how to adapt quickly to change and most of all how to enjoy change and be ready for change time and time again!

At the time that I met my future husband I had just finished a 10-year relationship, moved jobs and moved to a new house, so you could say a lot of change was going on in my life…

Who Moved My Cheese Book – A brief synopsis

Who Moved My Cheese? tells the tale of four characters who live in a maze and each look for cheese to nourish and make them happy. In this book Cheese is a used as a metaphor for want you want to have in life!

That can be anything from being healthy, being wealthy, being spiritual, having a good job/career, in a lovely relationship etc. The maze represents where you look for what you want, your family, your community, your workplace and so on.

You will learn in this book how to discover the secret for yourself and also learn how to deal with change in your life, so that you suffer from less stress and enjoy more success in your work and in your life.

I understand this book is written for all ages, the story itself can be read in no time at all but the lessons and insights that is learned can last for a whole lifetime.

It’s a good back, I read it several years ago and remember it well. My favorite aspects of Who Moved My Cheese were that you should try hard not to take yourself too seriously and to let more humour into your life and really let it be a force of positive change.

Also, and sometimes I maybe even imagined myself as a little mouse.. lol, but that trust there will be another new piece of cheese just around the corner and you will stumble upon it as long as you try hard to always keep your life moving forward and not get too bogged down in distractions and potholes in the road.

It was a good book, nice article on Who Moved My Cheese.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it’s very easy to identify with the mice in the book – glad you liked the recommendation and enjoyed the book too…

All the best to you, Julie Anne

Hey thank you for the awesome review!

This seems like it would be something that my wife would like to read, but I’m also curious, would men enjoy this book too?

I would like to get a copy for Christmas, if not for me then for my wife.  Has your husband read the book and if so did he like it too?

Hi Jessie glad you like my review.

Yes absolutely this book is ideal for men, women and children 😉  My husband had read the book before giving it to me to read, he definitely enjoyed it and at the time had his own business so it was helpful and relevant in that area of his life.

I would highly recommend you both read the book what you gain will stay with you a lifetime!

My kind of review and my kind of book. I am very much a ‘read via reference’  The referral can come from anywhere. I’ve even gone out and bought a book I’ve seen on a coffee table in a film scene. If it piques my fancy, I’m in.

It struck me as very cool that the book was re-released for children and not just another illustrated cover and big print, an adaptation. Kudos to the author for that. I’ve also just seen that on another site, this book is ‘Number One’ for motivational books in 2019. The right length so that you can read it and not worry that you’re going to forget the beginning by the time you read the end.

Seeing as we’re reaching ‘that’ time of year, I will be adding this to my ‘wish list’. You can never have too many, it only takes one line or paragraph to resonate and your whole life can change.

Hello Twack Romero, glad you enjoyed the review, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I’m sure your library is an array of genres that have piqued your interest over the years 😉

I’ve got it on good authority that a “Who Moved my Cheese for tweens” version also exists which I shall be purchasing for my 12yr old as he will experience a myriad of changes next year and hopefully the message in this book will guide him through.

Hope you enjoy the read, let me know what you think! All the best, Julie Anne

Hi Julie Anne!

Thank you for sharing those tips with us.

Sometimes we care so much about others and forget about ourselves, especially married women with kids.

Many people do not like changes, but we need to adapt ourselves and continue the journey of life.

As for me, moving houses is a bit challenging for me. I try to see those changes in a positive way.

Hi Eva, thanks for sharing your thoughts, you’re right it’s hard to welcome change if you’ve not adopted that mindset, it takes time!  Best of luck with the move, you will overcome the challenges I have no doubt.

    All the best, Julie Anne

I can relate to this and I’m sure many others could as well.  for the most part, I think many of us (myself included), have had our “Cheese” moved on us many times.

Sometimes it’s even us that do the moving.  We let things get in our way or we don’t think we are good enough or have the skills to make it happen.  People in our lives tell us, “You can’t do that”.  We get inside our heads way too much, you know?  Yes, physical change is not the only thing that causes our “Cheese” to move.

It’s easy to forget that we are all born with special gifts, interests and abilities.

I think we could all get some benefits from this book.  Checking it out.

Hi Wayne, thanks for stopping by, your comment did make me chuckle, I’ve no doubt the cheese has been moved behind my back on a few occasions 😉

Hope you enjoy the book, I really believe it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Let me know how you get on…all the best, Julie Anne

Hi!

Thank you for this book presentation. Usually, I am not a “book lover” and I do not spend my free time reading books. However, once or twice per year, I will read a book on businesses, self improvement, success stories, etc.

I select the books that are recommended by my friends, family or other people that I met. If the book helped them somehow to be better or to better understand themselves, it will be probably one of the three books that I’ll read yearly.

I was quite confused when I saw the title of your article, when I realized it was the title of a book.

Could you tell me more about what you loved the most in this book ? How did it help you in your daily life ?

Julie Anne Byrne · November 1, 2019 at 5:17 pm

Hi Lauranne thanks for sharing your thoughts, I can guarantee you that this book is not like any you’ve ever read…

For me I’ve adopted a “always be ready for change” approach, I embrace change and never run from it, everything happens for a reason, I am a firm believer in that.

The book has so many different elements it’s hard to pinpoint one.  A lot of lessons to learn along the way. I do hope you enjoy it, let me know how you get on.

    All the best, Julie Anne
